Harlan Ellison: Unrepentant Harlequin

By George Edgar Slusser
1977

A sober, detailed analysis of Ellison's writing through the mid-1970s, this chapbook is unfocused at times, and I disagree with the author on several points (the relative worth of Memos From Purgatory, to name one). But Slusser clearly is knowledgeable and, though now three decades out of date, Unrepentant Harlequin is the sort of serious assessment that Ellison's work deserves.

A new but not updated edition was published (as a print-on-demand product) in 2006. Copies of the original printing are still available from The Harlan Ellison Record Collection.
