Run for the Stars

1991

Pivotal tale in Ellison's Earth-Kyba story cycle. First published in a magazine in 1957, it has appeared in book form at least twice since then, in The Beast That Shouted Love at the Heart of the World and, in graphic format, in Night and the Enemy. This version, paired with another short novel (Echoes of Thunder by Jack Dann and Jack C. Haldeman), has been revised and is described by the author as "the preferred text."

Preferred or not, it's really just a shoot-'em-up space Western, not at all up to the imaginary or literary levels of latter-day Ellison. Fun though.
