Over the Edge: Stories From Somewhere Else

1970

Like From the Land of Fear, this is a mixed bag: some straight sci-fi, some satirical fantasy, a long film review and, most important, several more efforts reflecting Ellison's move toward magic realism. "Pennies, Off a Dead Man's Eyes" is the collection's high point.

Over the Edge is long out of print, and Ellison once said that it was his wish it never be reissued. Four of its stories ("Blank ...," "Final Trophy," "!!!The!!Teddy!Crazy!!Show!!!" and "Tiny Ally") were rewritten and included in Stalking the Nightmare. Four previously uncollected works were added when the book was finally republished in 1996 as half of Edgeworks 1.
