Not a career-long retrospective, not a collection of cutouts and remainders, but an honest-to-goodness, all new gathering of Ellisonia on the general subject of the accelerating decline of civilization as we know it. Marvelous indeed.
Among the better stops on this highway to hell: "One Life, Furnished in Early Poverty," a poignant and terrifying tale of tortured adolescence; "I'm Looking for Kadak," the hilarious adventures of the blue, 11-armed adherents to Judaism on the planet Theta 996:VI; and "Paulie Charmed the Sleeping Woman," a short, punchy riff on the power of music that, remarkably, Ellison had not included in a collection previously.
